LEATHER CARE INSTRUCTIONS

At Hyde & Skyn, we take pride in crafting premium leather products designed to age beautifully. To ensure your piece remains in excellent condition, we have compiled this comprehensive guide to proper leather care.
GENERAL CARE
All Hyde & Skyn products are made from 100% top-grain and full-grain leather. While leather is durable, it requires proper maintenance to prevent stains, dust accumulation, and deterioration over time. With regular care, your Hyde & Skyn leather piece will develop a rich patina and improve in character.
MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES
- AVOID EXPOSURE: Keep your leather product away from extreme heat, oils, chemicals, and water. Direct sunlight and prolonged exposure to moisture can lead to dryness and discoloration.
- HANDLING MOISTURE: If your leather piece becomes wet, condition it promptly while the pores are open, then allow it to dry naturally, away from direct sunlight.
- PREVENTING MILDEW: In humid environments, mildew can form. To remove it, mix diluted alcohol with water, wipe the affected area with a cloth, and allow it to dry. If needed, follow up with mild soap containing a germicide and wipe clean with a damp cloth.
- DUST REMOVAL: Gently wipe your leather item with a slightly damp, soft flannel cloth to remove dust buildup.
- MANAGING SPILLS: Immediately wipe blot spills with a clean cloth or tissue paper. For tougher spills, use lukewarm water and allow the item to air dry.
- STAIN REMOVAL: Fresh food stains can be wiped away with a damp cloth. For oil or grease stains, sprinkle ground blackboard chalk over the area, let it sit for 24 hours, then brush it off gently. Stubborn stains may require a mild moisturizing soap and gentle circular rubbing with a soft cloth.
- SUEDE & NUBUCK CARE: Use a suede brush and protector to maintain the texture. Do not apply ordinary leather creams, as they may cause discoloration. Instead, opt for a high-quality leather conditioner.
- WATERPROOFING: CONSIDER USING A WATERPROOF LEATHER SPRAY FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
THE LEATHER CARE ROUTINE: CLEAN, CONDITION, POLISH, AND USE
- CLEANING: Select a leather cleaner that preserves natural oils. A mild moisturizing soap works best. Before applying any product, test on a small inconspicuous area. Use a soft cloth and lukewarm water, rubbing in gentle circles, and remove excess residue with a dry cloth.
- CONDITIONING: Apply a high-quality leather conditioner occasionally to restore moisture and suppleness. Leather balms or restoration creams work well when your product starts to look dry or worn.
- POLISHING: This step is optional and should be done sparingly to achieve a high-gloss finish.
- USAGE: Regular use helps maintain the leather’s condition. Avoid storing it in a confined space for long periods; instead, hang it up or take it out occasionally to ensure it remains supple.
STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS
- AVOID PLASTIC BAGS: Leather should never be stored in plastic, as it can trap moisture and lead to mold growth.
- USE BREATHABLE STORAGE BAGS: Store your leather items in cloth or paper bags to protect against dust while allowing airflow.
